      Currently getting tuition in the ID programme to keep my mind sharp and have been set some ‘homework’ I’m struggling to complete. Need to create a headline with a white stroke outline around the the text and a drop shadow below that . . . the effect being a solid colour font with the drop shadow offset by the white stroke. Can sort the shadow, but combing with the stroke is giving me problems. Apologies for being an ageing idiot. Help gratefully received.

      Hi John, were you able to figure out your question? What problems are you having with the white stroke? There are a couple of ways to do it. Here are some screen shots. I hope this answers your question.

      ha ha ha…

      Well, I’ll call this cheating. Homework should be done by the person himself rather than assigning a third party to do it on his behalf.

      @Charlotte
      , no offense! you should have guided him instead of explaining it in details through snapshot. Let him learn :)

      @John, in my opinion and as per my personal experience… the best instructor for a person is a person himself. We learn by hit and trials, and when you learn by yourself, you get the things in your brain for your lifetime.

      :) this tutorial would have made you a star in your class… really?

      AND don’t forgot that we’re a community who are ready to resolve your problems at any hour of the day. But not the homework :)

      no hard feelings, just for the learning…

      PS: This is going to be the funniest thread of all time.

        Well, that’s true, but it had been a little while with no replies …

      Cheating eh? So here’s my confession: Dear Father Forum and the assembled design gurus, I am essentially a good person – try to help the needy, poor and marginalised – but the moral high ground for learning is all too often beyond my failing grasp, as Google tempts me with it’s time-efficient, easy options on accessing knowledge. In my ‘homezork’ research the InDesign Secrets link was presented like a gift from Heaven and my fingers gravitated towards loading the site. I’d submit in defence I’ve travailed the more traditional academic route with books aplenty many years ago and now in my more senior years, perhaps deserve a ‘leg up’. Am I forgiven? I hope so . . . and bless you for help shared and doubles, the help to come for this ageing scribe.

        LOL, yes, you are forgiven John! I appreciate Masood’s comments about learning by experimenting, but we are a friendly community of InDesign users and everyone needs a question answered sometimes.

        Yes, text (or any object) can have both a fill and a stroke color, and that is separate from the features in the Effects panel. Good luck with your studies!

      Bless you . . . Thanks for being friendly . . . I almost was a proper man of the cloth, but failed the selection panel. In retrospect, a very wise decision by the assembled sages of the day.

      Like I said, no offense. I was just trying to make John feel homely; a sort of welcome.

      John you’re always welcome with all sorts of queries and issues. We’ll try to learn and sort them out :) :)

      PS: I was away from my computer from the last couple of days.
