      Hi,

I have been tasked with making sure all our artwork goes out of the building with a sign off slug / legend, which details things such as Filename, Revision, User (who made the changes), and Date & Time.

Is there a script that exists that produces some/all of the above in a single click?

If not, are there individual scripts that would be best used? I am aware that you can include filename etc using Text Variable. Maybe someone has created a script to simply add each of the variables to a text box in the slug area?

If this was you, how best would you execute the task at hand? Ideally I want a single click solution, but if not, a script based solution.

      Thanks
      Chris

Chris, this seems to be possible. Since the solution depends on your needs, such a script must be written for you and the scripter should be paid for that.

      Hi,

      Something written 1 month ago:

The script adds to all docs of a chosen folder a slug! … with what you want! =D

Thanks for your suggestions, but I’ve managed to do what I need using Text Variables.
However, the main issue i’m having is inserting the Username or Computer Name in a field called “modified by:”.

I need this to work so that when another user in the business opens the file it changes the Modified By: section to their name.

I found a script online, but it simply doesn’t work. It’s this:

      $.getenv(‘USER’)

      Any help?

Don’t say: “it doesn’t work!” but “I don’t know what to do with this code!” =D

      [It works fine for me!]

PS: in my video, I could have included variables (so simple!) in the slug created by the script in all chosen folder docs but I’m really too lazy for that … and don’t want to loose time for free today! ;-)

Ok, so I pasted the code in a blank text file and saved it as a .jsx file and placed it in the user scripts. When I click it, like any other script, it doesn’t run.

How did you get it to work Obi?

      Thanks

“… Actually on vacancy! Please, let me a message after the bip! …”

      Bip!

There are some suggestions about why scripts sometimes do or don’t run here: https://creativepro.com/how-to-install-a-script-in-indesign-that-you-found-in-a-forum-or-blog-post.php

I’m back from my very long holidays! =D

Place the cursor in text and play:

      app.selection[0].contents = $.getenv(‘USER’);
