Exporting both pages and spreads

I have a book with a few pictures that take up a whole spread. I want to export it into a PDF to be viewed on screen so that most pages are just a regular single page, expect for those pages where there is a picture on the entire spread – in these cases I want it to show as a spread.
I can think of two ways of doing this:
      1) Exporting several PDFs and combining them later. However, this will require me to manually handle inner links in the document (such as the TOC pointing where I need it to) and bookmarks.
      2) Create these spreads as single pages of a larger size. However, this will mess up the numbering of the pages (since these spreads are numbered as two pages).
Is there an easier way, or are these two my only options?

I can’t think of any way to do such a thing. Why not just export the entire thing as spreads?

I mean–all the pages are facing each other, right?

Do you mean you want a regular text page to just appear by itself, then a spread, then a single page of text? It sounds awkward to me.

I guess I just don’t understand the rational. And I swear to God I mean no offense. I just don’t understand why you want to do what you want to do. Since I have no idea of what your document even looks like or anything, I am curious. I, myself, only work in book publishing, so to me, it’s confusing.

The book is a role-playing game, and such PDFs are usually presented in single pages, not in spreads. So, I could do everything in spreads, but it would stand out among other such products, which isn’t a good thing, I think.
There are only two spreads in the entire book which contain a single picture, one of them being a map of a large area. So I thought keeping these two spreads as spreads while everything else is a single page would be a better solution.
