Had this problem about a month ago and it went away. When exporting an in-design file to pdf and update a old pdf file it will not override the old file. This happens even when I delete the old file. It remembers the old file and will not update.

This problem has started again. Has anybody had the same problem and is there a cure.

      Thanks for any help

This generally happens to me when I still have the old PDF file open in Acrobat. (And I have heard that sometimes Acrobat thinks it has files open when you can’t see them, and requires quitting from time to time. I haven’t experienced that, though.)

“When exporting an in-design file to pdf and update a old pdf file”

When you export over a PDF, do you get the <<“file.pdf” already exists. Do you want to replace it?>> dialogue box?

Make sure you are clicking Replace (hitting return will cancel).

Also, do you have multiple copies of this PDF? Is it possible you are Replacing one file and looking at another? Make sure you know where you are Exporting the PDF, and double-check the date.

Otherwise, I recommend Exporting to a different file name.

When you try to override, do you get a pop-up asking you to confirm the override?

This happens to me often. It doesn’t follow a pattern though. Sometimes I’m able to override an existing file with the same name. But most often it just warns me that it “failed to save pdf”. So I have to delete the existing file, which is not easy as well. I have to force delete using Crl+Shift+Delete (Windows) because the simple Delete command won’t do it. I got used to this workaround until I can figure it out.

Yes, I get the message to override and I tried everything, new file, new folder, etc..

The only way that I can get this to work is to export the file as an eps and reopen it in Illustrator and save as a pdf.

The funny this is that it exports 2 files 1 as the old file and 1 as the new file.\

Adobe needs to look at this problem.

      Thanks for the response help
