I probably didn’t need to buy this, but I did.

I have a membership directory and need to index each section simply by member name.

I set it up with paragraph styles and just want to index every member’s name, all of which are in one particular paragraph style. When I tried that, I got single words.

It’s probably simple for someone who’s used this before, but my head is swimming.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      example of the listings:

Kris, I’m not sure… you might need to contact the folks at Indiscripts directly. Or you may need to apply a character style to the names? (I don’t recall how it works with paragraph styles.)

I’m hoping those names and phone numbers in your example above are fake. If not, let me know and I will edit them for privacy reasons.

Omigosh. I feel like I just heard from a rock star. :D

      I’m probably overstating/overthinking.

I have 130-ish pages of a directory of companies (company name, address, phone, web, etc.)

I need to compile the company names in an alphabetic index (with the page reference) so I end up with

      Acme Anvils 21
      Boris Belts 56
      Charlie Canvas 8

      and so on.

Can you/anyone point me to the simplest, cleanest way to accomplish that? I did buy IndexMatic but also have Index Brutal available.

(And David, these are construction supply businesses, so no need to edit, but thank you.) (I’m still all, David-honest-to-goodness-Blatner!!)

Aw shucks, thanks, Kris! Glad to be of help.

I’m thinking that perhaps the Layout > Table of Contents feature might actually work better for you, if you already have paragraph styles applied to each company. You can turn on the Alphabetical checkbox to have the TOC show up in alphabetical order instead of chronological.

This is what happens when you spend 25 years in newsrooms and then jump to magazines: Overthinkins R Me.

      Don’t tell anyone.
