I have a threaded frame table that runs over several pages. There are two header rows. Cell styles, including paragraph styles, are applied to the cells along with some character styles as well.

Heading 1 style includes shading; header two style has no shading. Header 1 has a merged cell under which header 2 is divided into several columns.

When I go to replicate the header over the several pages, selecting two rows for the header and skipping the first page, I get two rows on subsequent pages, ALL with shading, NO text in any cell, no divided cell for the second row … what am I doing wrong please. I have screen grabs I can share if that helps.

      Thanks

This isn’t really what you’re trying to do, but does it help at all?

You want to make sure that you’re actually converting those two rows to header rows.

Hi, thanks David I did read that. However, for accessibility, it only passes the check in pdf if ‘skip first’ is not ticked! So my current workaround is to go back over all 70 tables in the book and go into the headers options, untick skip first, click ok, which puts an extra row of header 1 cells above my heading, copy and paste the column titles into the top row and then delete the original header row.

And here’s a really curly one: if I use the handy menu at the top right hand of the screen next to the lightning strike to make a header row, it disappears the whole thing!

So, to do the first lot of stuff I started looking at scripting and just glazed over. I wish InDesign had an actions panel like PhotoShop. That is the best thing ever. Scripting will have to wait; I’ve got 70 tables to fix pronto.

Update from a colleague: the handy menu options works if I turn everything off in the header and footer dialogue box: no header row and no skip first.

So problem solved. It seems I was given a bit of a bum steer in the first place, but now can fix all. One at a time.
