If anyone can help me, I’d appreciate it—even just a nudge in the right direction.

I am working on a magazine design that has a page for continuing three different stories. It’s a 3-column layout. So I have one story finishing at about two-thirds down the first column; the second story goes from the end of that to about halfway through the second column; the third story gets the rest of the page.

I can manually squish things back and forth, but with all that InDesign can do, I just figured there must be something better of which I’m not aware. I’ve tried anchoring objects at the top of text frames and using text wrap, but if anything reflows, the “Continued from” header moves to stay with the insertion point. I thought of tables, but I can’t find any information describing how to do what I want.

      Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

What a great question! I love these kinds of puzzles. But after thinking about it for a while, I cannot think of any way to automate this and keep the “continued from page” jump line in the proper place (that is, to make it move along with the first line).

Yes, you can make the text flow properly by stacking the text frames and using text wrap, but that darn “continued from” line is tricky. I think that might have to be moved manually.

I’d love to hear if someone else comes up with a good solution, though!

Thank you for responding, David. I’m at least glad to hear that I wasn’t overlooking something obvious. I’m kinda new to InDesign, so I’m still figuring out what I can do. I appreciate your Lynda.com training videos; although, weirdly, I am hearing your voice as a running narration to my workflow sometimes…
