Hi there,
I have been just got to the stage of proofing my epub3 book on the iPad. The files passed Epub checker and looked great on the iBook desktop viewer (Mac) For the TOC I used the file name option for simplicity and it looked fine having prepared the file names to suit. Page numbering was set in In design prefs as absolute numbering. The 3 panels appear in the navigation bar at the top of frame, home left, contents middle and scrolling to the right. It looks good and works well, as do the hyperlinks. I am happy at this stage.
Next is getting it onto the iPad, did it with iTunes as dropbox is very slow down here (NZ) and the file is large. No problems though and it opened as expected. The behaviour was completely different to the desktop. In the nav bar the icon for scrolling was missing and when the contents icon was tapped, the contents did not display the absolute numbers but chapter and numbers from a long discarded input from when I was just starting out with indesign. I am by the way a refugee from DPS iPad apps. I had in the past tried to eliminate these chapter and number items in the page number panel, and although they don’t show up there, they do on the iPad side loaded version. When the content icon is tapped it then displays more navigation panels at the right side of the bar, which when tapped, starts to display thumbnails in checkerboard style, which as there are 500 pages, represents something of a challenge for the iPad and the humble author.
I really liked the desktop rendition, and am hoping I can get the same on the iPad, can anyone suggest a fix?
With thanks, Steve.
I have a Kobo Arc winging its way from Amazon so have the delights of proofing on that in the near future, any thoughts?
