Change the background that appears behind my Indesign magazine?

      I am very new to InDesign and have little-to-no knowledge of how most things work Adobe wise. I was able to play around with an InDesign magazine template and when I exported it, the magazine was sits on top of a white background. I’ve seen actual online magazines where there is a picture of a maybe a color other than white. Is this a setting in InDesign or does it require coding?
