Are you saying you copied/pasted text to a new INDD file?

If so I’m guessing your prefs in the target file are set to create typographer quotes. (Preferences > Type > Use Typographer’s Quotes). That is the default setting.

The answer is to make sure the target document has the option disabled before pasting in something with straight quotes.

Also, if the deed is done already ;-) you can use Find/Change to find curly quotes and replace with straight quotes … in the Find field, enter the curly quote character, in the Change field, click the flyout menu of the special characters and choose Quotation Marks > Straight Single (or Double).
