      Hi there,

I’m on the last step on completing an EPUB and I’ve run into an issue. I have several InDesign documents that are compiled together in a book with the first document being the book cover. When I unzip the exported EPUB and then rezip, Ibooks will not open the file. I get the following error message “Failed to load book because the requested resource is missing.” If I do the same process but do not include the InDesign cover file, there are no problems.

Any thoughts as to why this might be happening. I’ve even compared the html of both senarios but do not see a difference.

Thank you, this last step is extremely frustrating!! Any help would be much appreciated.

      Hi Jordan

You seem to be introducing an error when you include the cover and indeed are pointing to a cover file ‘resource’ which is not included in the EPUB package. Rather than trying to do this by hand coding it may be easier to just choose the cover from within InDesign using the General options in the EPUB Export Options?

Tip: Make sure you don’t just ZIP the ebook if you have have needed to open it up. Use free tools instead.

If you are still having problems I can take a quick look if you share the EPUB file. Contact me on twitter via @CircularKen

        Hi Ken,

Thank you for your response. After much trial and error I found out that if I didn’t include the cover image in the EPUB export options, everything worked fine. For some reason, by adding the cover image file there, it was messing everything up. I’m getting the file ready to convert to a Mobi, so I’m hoping that when uploading, there will be a spot where I can upload the cover image that will be seen on the site.

        I appreciate your help!

        Thank you,

        Jordan
