    Hi everybody, I am an indesign rookie and I am having a freaking problem with a WIP project that i apreciate any help:)

    My customer wants to create a numbered worksheet books a5 that could print and use it to do some drawings and take some notes for their works. The worksheets should be numbered respecting an according series in books of 50 pages.

    I already have the design approved, one table with some text,a header with text and blank space that should be filled in by hand after the print, the logo, and the data variable placed. Then i tried to do the data merge process too, using a .txt file, generated 200 records, multiple records, with no oversea text that i checked previously with prefligh functionality, and the first problem comes here. When i get the merged document the file generated has 200mb. Aware of the corruption problems and some stuff like that i export to .inml (i think that is the correct extension) and i get a new file with 16mb. I think that the problem has been solved, but when i try to export the file, i get a pdf with 200mb for 50 simples pages using a pdf preset: smallest file size.

    I am a Mac user, using indesign Cs6 and i really dont know what’s going on. Any thoughts?

    How did you make that pattern? The grid? Something is really wrong with how that page is created, because that one page is 6 MB. It looks like every little diagonal line is a single object. Yes, that would make for a large file.

    Hi David.

    I created a table using InDesign and used strokes to create the grid with that specific design. I am not sure what’s going on. Any suggestions?

    What should be the size of a PDF with 50 pages with numbered series? 3 to 4 MB? 10? I dont believe that getting a 200MB file should be normal.

    Try doing it without the background grid pattern, and see how big the file is.

    Tks David. I will try and keep up posted. But i need that grid for final printout.

    Do you think that grid is reponsible for the file size??

    Hi David.

    I already try your suggestion and the file gets smaller as expectable. So i export the grid to .png file and import the same picture and produced a new pdf and works well. Many tks.

    But i dont understand why this hapenning. I have another assignement soon, that requires have some tables and graphics and honestly i am not expecting that i have to do this workaround everytime i need to do a table. Any thoughts?

    But that isn’t just a table; that was a huge very complicated table with thousands of strokes on each page.
    Maybe you could simplify the table? Or maybe you could try making the table on its own page, then exporting it as a PDF and placing that PDF into your document (so it is a single graphic that is repeated for each page). I’m not sure if that will work. Or maybe create it with lines in a grid instead of table strokes.

    Depends, are you exporting it as a HIGH QUALITY pdf or maybe a SMALL pdf? Lots of times, when you have a VECTOR background image, with many points, the exported file size will be very large. Another thing to note, if you export your PDF (even as a HIGH QUALITY) you can open it in ADOBE WRITER and save it again from there as a reduced file size PDF.

    Hi Kevin. Appreciate your comment, but I am aware of this issues too. Ad David said, the problem is related with table’s complexity. I already fixed the issue and i hope that issue does not happen anymore in the future.
