Please help! I have to change existing index entries from level 1 to level 2. Is there an easy way to do it, or do I have to delete the old ones and recreate as level 2?

Have you already created your index? That is, are you trying to change the index entries in a finished index, where the index is on the pages? Or you’re trying to change index entries that are in your body text?

The index has been created. I am working with the index box with references/topics/book etc. I figured out after I wrote to you that I have to click on the page number in the index list to change levels. This works for a single entry, but I have a whole lot in the same category that have to be changed to level 2 from level 1, and the only way I can do it is to do it one by one. Is there a quicker way?

No, I don’t think there is a quicker way. You might be able to find a way to do it by exporting the text as InDesign Tagged Text, then editing the code in a text processor, or exporting the file as IDML and editing it in an XML processor, but my guess is that it would be very time-consuming just to figure out how to do it and there is no guarantee it would work. If you had thousands of entries, it might be worthwhile figuring that out, but if it’s just dozens of entries, it’s probably faster to do them one at a time.
