I have a query, I have sent a client a fxl epub produced from ID CC. They have extracted the xhtml files and say that when these are previewed in a browser “the font doesn’t work”. Is this because they have removed the relationship between the CSS and the html?
To my mind these files are not meant to be read in an internet browser without the correct plug in / app ie readium.

      Am I right??

I have tested the epub in Readium and ibooks and they work great with it.

      Hi Tim

InDesign applies font obfuscation and so the fonts will only work inside an EPUB reader that support this obfuscation.
Readium and iBooks both support the font obfuscation method used and so the fonts will work, the browser does not and so these fonts can’t be used.

CircularFLO from Circular Software https://circularflo.com/ offers the choice to switch off the font obfuscation when using live text as this is required for some EPUB and other ebook formats readers not least Amazon KF8.

      Hope this helps
      Ken

Thanks Ken, I thought it may be along those lines. The clients reader is having the same problem, yet they say it is based on Readium.
      The plot thickens.

This is a straight conversion from print files of a large book, all fonts have been changed to otf or tt, and the conversion looks pretty good in Readium, ibooks and Azardi even.
