Reply To: Magazine InDesign to Kindle (April 2015)

Oh believe me, I hear ya! I write the books and format them. The only other person who gets their paws on my novels other than myself is my freelance editor. She helps me with developmental and then when I finish the novel, she does a line by line copy edit. Unfortunately, she’s using Word, so I haven’t been able to remove that critter from my work flow yet. . . YET. I’m working on it. ;) Now that one of my novels was awarded a stipend by ACX, I have it in audiobook production and the PDF I sent the producer was all InDesign. (The audiobook stuff has been sooo coool!!!!)
And yes, you are very correct in saying text – like what I’m doing in my fiction novels – is a safer to work with. But like I said, I’ve got the drop caps and all the bells and whistles that I can get without going overboard.

I used to upload the mobi Kindle Previewer generated and since I’ve stopped I’ve had much better results. I know, y’all probably think I’m plumb loco. lol! But before when you couldn’t upload an epub to Amazon, that’s exactly what I did, upload the mobi I created in the previewer. I had more problems when I did that.

You’re gonna love this one. I’d then go to Amazon, pay retail for my own novel, download it, and there would be serious problems. *head desk* So why is my preview copy working but the one I purchased like a regular customer isn’t? And I did move my preview copies out of my kindle directory before downloading the one I purchased retail.

Highlander’s Hope is the last novel I uploaded the mobi I created in Previewer. If you read the early reviews you’ll see what happened. I got one star reviews not because the story sucked but because of the file issues. Readers are actually going back and defending me in reviews and comments because their file was fine and they liked the story. lol!

Like I said, I’m not privy to the internal workings of Amazon and KDP but I know when I upload that mobi file, it doesn’t matter how well I’ve proofed that sucker, I’m going to have problems with it. Uploading an epub directly – I have smooth sailing.

I dunno…I just know this has been so much easier for me (now watch I just jinxed myself – lol!)
