I’m working on a newsletter template and would like for text copy-pasted into a frame to be formatted according to my predefined paragraph styles (headline, body, italic). I have linked the paragraph styles and instructed the object style (“BLURB”) to apply next style, but when I copy-paste content into the text frame, the type is formatted only according to the first paragraph style (headline). I am able apply the final formatting by cycling the object style of the frame in question off and then back into BLURB, but this project is for a client who is not very tech-savvy and I would like the template to automatically apply the consecutive paragraph styles to the text.

Can anyone offer insight on this?

Rather than applying the object style and then pasting the text, you could start with a simple text frame and then apply the object style.

To make this easy for your non-savvy client, assign a keyboard shortcut to the object style and tell the client “Paste the content, press Escape then [keyboard shortcut].”

That should be easy to memorize and easy for the client to build into muscle memory so it becomes second nature.

Even better, paste with no text frame active. The text will be pasted into a new text frame, which will be selected and ready for the shortcut. Two steps: Command V then shortcut.
