I’m trying to create a TOC for a book I’m working on, but for some reason when I select the Header styles I want to include it isn’t importing the data. I’m very familiar with using Header Styles to create TOCs and have done this plenty of times in the past. In fact, this same book used to have a working TOC but I needed to update it and then — poof! — all my topics vanished.

I have noticed that the same headers import properly to the TOC if used in text frames outside of the primary one. For example: sidebars, title page, copyright page, etc.

What’s strange is that it seems to be ignoring my primary text frames — where the story part of the book is. I’ve tried recreating some of the headers and that iddn’t work. I’ve made sure the frame is both visible and printable. I’m not really sure what else to try.

Anyone have any ideas about what could be going on and how to fix it?

      Hi Jacob,

This problem is interesting to me. If you want to send me your file, I’d be happy to take a look at it. kelly-at-documentgeek.com
