I have a 650+ Excel file with a hyperlink on each line (links to a species description on web)that I want to place into InDesign as a table. I know InDesign will strip out spreadsheet formatting, so I exported the Excel file to Word. All the hyperlinks exported fine and work in Word. However, when I place into InDesign, the hyperlinks are stripped out. I tried a PDF version, copied the text and again, the huyperlinks did not follow. I really do not want to redo 650+ hyperlinks in InDesign. Any suggestions??

Word hyperlinks usually come in just fine. Are you saving and placing the file as a .docx file? Or .rtf file?

I imported the file as a docx. I tried the .rtf file format and it works. However, it imported as a anchored object. I had to release it in order to make it a table. Then, convert table to text to make it work within the layout. I appreciate the reply. Just remember to use RTF format. Thanks David.\

And just for reference, you should not need to use rtf. The docx file format should work. I just made a table in Word, put some hyperlinks in it and then placed the Word file into InDesign. The hyperlinks showed up in InDesign’s Hyperlinks panel just fine.

David: For some reason, the .docx file did not work. In the past, Word hyperlinks imported fine. There is something with this file that is an issue. Glad you suggested the RTF format because it worked. Thanks again for the response and assistance.

Still true for me with version 2022! RTF required to get hyperlinks in from Word, in this case. (They were in a table, FYI)
