Glyphs panel and Typekit fonts

      Hi,
this morning I wanted to search for some specific glyphs. So I open the Glyphs panel and choose the font I wanted to use. But nothing appears in this panel. Hum… I tried with Myriad Pro and everything was okay. Then I realized the font I needed was a Typekit font.

Is it impossible to use the Glyphs panel with a Typekit font?

I’m using the last version of InDesign (October 2014) on a Mac with Mountain Lion.

Yes, typekit fonts are just like normal fonts and the glyphs panel works fine with them.

Thank you David. I will try again when I will be back in InDesign.

      Hello,
It could well be that the font file does not have the character set that you are willing to place in the glyph panel.
Unicode comes in mind because the fonts that are loaded by default, such as Arial or Myriad Pro have the full set of Unicode characters.
You would need a utility that reads font files and then check if the glyph(s) you are willing to search exist in the Typekit font. Be aware that font files not produced by the well-known font foundries may have placed the special characters (above ASCII 256) in different positions from those dictated by Unicode.
      Regards
      Tom

I was able to make it happen what more time :
I deselect everything then go to the Glyphs panel and choose the Typekit font I want, then the Glyphs panel becomes empty. I choose a desktop font (visible in this panel) and then my Typekit font which now is visible. Strange. It may be related with activated styles or not I previously use…

But now I can see the glyphs event for Typekit font, that’s what I want!

      @Tom
: in fact I wanted to see if there was some ornaments in this font, not a particular glyph already used with a previous font. And you’re right, sometimes this are surprises with glyphs and some fonts :(

If you use special fonts often or even if you just wish to have a good utility to examine what a font file contains, here is a good choice:
BabelMap (only for Windows) – https://www.babelstone.co.uk/Software/BabelMap.html
      It’s free :-)
