Append a character, e.g. add quotes around titles

I’m looking for a way to add double quotes around any text with a paragraph style “Titles” applied. It’s easy enough to insert the open quotes to the left via Bullets and Numbering, but I cannot find a way to append the close quotes to the end. Is this even possible? Inserting/appending a character?

If you want to actually insert real quote marks, you could use find/change, with grep.
      Search for
      (.+)
in the paragraph style, and replace with
      “$1”

      Such as:

Thanks, David. That works perfectly for that application, but the real trouble is that I want quotes around the titles within the document but not in the table of contents. So, “inserting real quote marks” doesn’t let me have it both ways… which I demand, of course!

Is there not a way to “automatically” append a character to the end of text without “inserting real quote marks”? Like a bullet–but on the right side?

        Thanks.

You can put a “bullet” at the end of the line, but you can’t do it at beginning and end.

You could sort of fake it with something like this, perhaps:

Or you could set up the table of contents style to “disappear” the quote marks. So they would be there, but you wouldn’t be able to see them.

Yes, that post of yours was one of the first things I played with! Filing that one for later use…

How would I “disappear” the quote in the TOC?

      Thanks a lot.

Make a character style that applies the color “None” and the size .1 pt. Then apply that style to quote marks using a grep style inside the paragraph style you’re using for the TOC.

Awesome. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but it certainly accomplishes what I need. Thanks!
