Hi all, just joined up today, looking forward to getting involved with this fantastic resource!

I have a query I hope someone can clear up for me. I’ve just starting to put together a simple EPUB for the first time.

I’m exporting and checking as I go along. When I open my EPUB in Digital Editions it all looks as it should do. However, when I export the EPUB automatically opens in iBooks where it looks different – all the fonts have defaulted to Times New Roman (I think).

The font in question is Voltiare which i’m using for some headings and page titles.

I’m thinking that maybe at some point i’ll have to embed this fonts so that all readers see the same thing?

      Hope that makes sense.

      Cheers

      Hi John

being a novice myself john, but i have read somewhere that open type fonts are really the way to go. Is Voltiare Otf? You should not have to embed it

Hi Steve, thanks for your reply.

Yes it is, it’s from Googles fonts, I was careful choosing it so that this problem wouldn’t happen.

It’s strange that it is fine in Digital Editions but not in iBooks.

Does anyone else come across this? Sorry if this is a numb newbie question.

      Hi John,

Which version of InDesign are you using? Also, are you embedding fonts while exporting?

      Regards,
      Pooja

      Hi Pooja,
I’m currently using CS6. I’ve selected the option which asked to include embedible fonts.

      Thanks

      Hi John,

There was a bug in CS6 about font embedding not working on iBooks, we had fixed that bug in CC release.

      Regards,
      Pooja

Ah, excellent, thanks very much Pooja!

When I upgrade, can I use the same file in CC or am I going to have to start again with a new CC document to fix the bug?

      Many thanks.

      Hi John,

You can use the same file in CC, there should not be any issue working with the same file.

      Regards,
      Pooja
