Font characters

      Hello!

I’m having a weird font issue where the characters typed into InDesign are coming in wrong.

For example, when I type the character ‘1’ it comes in as 2. ‘2’ comes in as 3 and so on. A colon comes in as a semi colon. Letters are fine, it’s just the numbers and puctuation. I am currently working around it by selecting the correct desired character from the glyphs.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone know how I might be able to fix it?

I would check to see if it’s just this one font or all fonts.
I would try rebuilding your preferences. https://creativepro.com/resources/faq
And check to see what keyboard setting you’re using in your OS. Perhaps you or someone changed it from US keyboard to Greek or something like that. (April Fools Day was this week!) :)

Hi David, thanks for your reply. Ha, it’s definitely not an April fools! It’s been happening for a while and it happens when other people use that font too. It’s just one weight of one font – other weights of that family and other fonts in the document are all fine.
I have rebuilt my preferences and it doesn’t make a difference.

Is there a way to reassign characters using glyphs?!

Not really. Perhaps the font file is just corrupted. Maybe try to get a clean one.

It definitely sounds like a corrupt font file. Like David said–see if you can get a clean copy of it. If not, you can always try Font Doctor (though it costs money) to fix it. I use it all the time.
