My solution to creating an attractive ellipsis in my book design has been to create three periods with non-breaking spaces between them, then create a character style which tracks the ellipsis (plus the space before and after) at about -50 (depending on the text font used). The spaces between periods need to be non-breaking to avoid an ellipsis wrapping over two lines of text.

BUT . . . when I want to epub a book design, Anne Marie and others tell me that non-breaking spaces need to be removed. So. My question is: What is the best approach to creating an attractive ellipsis for ereaders? Do practitioners just have to revert to three periods with no spaces between in order to avoid the possibility of dots wrapping over lines? Or go back to the ellipsis glyph? Both of these are ugly options — any other ideas?

      Hi,

Which version of InDesign are you using? There was a bug which got fixed in CS6 related to non-breaking spaces and iBooks showing error on opening the epub. I think, now it works fine but still would request you to try it out and confirm.

      Regards,
      Pooja
