Inconsistent or Wrong assignment names

      Hello,

I’m a graphic designer for an equine magazine. We are using InDesign CS3 at the moment. I’m seeing a weird occurance sometimes when I export stories to InCopy Assignments. Once my layout is complete I create and assignment in the assignments panel, usually by clicking the new assignments button. Then I select the stories on the pages and export them, usually through the Edit-InCopy-Add Selection to Assignment. Well this is where it gets weird. In some cases, when the content files show up in the assignment panel. The names of the files have nothing to do with the layout name. They are completely different naming schemes. My editor thinks this could become a problem. I didn’t think it mattered what their names where. I’ve noticed this issue whenever I have had to copy content from an existing layout file. Is there anyway to control how the assignment content gets named?

      Thank you!
      Holly

I may have answered my own question. Text boxes based on template or copied from existing files retain the memory of their original layout. Thus developing inconsistent names for the assignments.

Sigh. For me it may mean recreating all of our masterpage items to eliminate existing memories.
