I am currently doing a monthly magazine and the editor is very particular about the line ending. He's using ranged left style but doesn't like odd small words hanging to the right and insist they are forced over to the next line. Sometimes when I do this words automatically run backward to previous lines, meaning I have to force all the line to break as I wish.

Can anyone tell me how I can set the word spacing so that it is constant. I assume its somewhere in the preferences but I can't find it.

      I would try several features:

      • Balance Ragged Lines
      • Hyphenation (from the Control panel flyout menu) — try adjusting the slider in that dialog box
      • Justification (also in the Control panel flyout menu) — You can adjust word spacing there.
      • Adobe Single-Line Composer — when you choose single line instead of paragraph, you can adjust lines and not have previous lines change.

All of these are inside paragraph style definition, too, of course.
