Have you:

• Tried deleting all the images in the document, then doing an IDML export?
• Tried deleting all the index entries in the document: https://creativepro.com/how…..ntries.php and then trying the IDML trick?
• If both of those don't work, then try deleting all the text in the main story and doing the IDML. (In other words, keep trying to remove stuff until the IDML works. When it works, then, in theory, you will have found the corrupted culprit.)

Keep a clean backup, of course, so you can go back to it if you need to.
