I'm putting together an index for a catalog from an excel file containing 3 columns by 900ish rows with the idea of being able to update it directly without having to go back and redo everything.
Format being
Product# ——- Description ——– Price
For the most part, it's going great. I can manage to replicate my predecessor's row-by-row entry, and fit two columns of the index per page, keeping it to a neat 6 pages.
The rub: A few of the descriptions (~25 of the 900ish) are much longer than others (multiple parts/accessories included versus “10count”) and I've got overset text in these few circumstances. Shrinking the font is out. I am able to manually shift the entire index down and expand the individual trouble cells, but was wondering if there was a setting to have InDesign take this into account. If I expand the text box before merging, ID uses the size of the textbox for all of my entries, exploding my page #.
Is there a solution? Should I just be using a placed table?
I appreciate the feedback, I've been soaking up the blogposts trying to find answers!
