Transferring index entries from old chapter to new one??

      Is it possible to transfer index entries from one chapter file to another? I have a book that has been re-written, but some of the initial chapters are nearly identical to the indexed versions from the previous edition of the book. I'd like to transfer the index entries from the old chapters to the new ones. I know I can do it manually, but if there's an easier way, I'd love to know what it is!
