I don't know when it happened, but at some point Adobe decided to make en spaces and em spaces non-breaking. Maybe it was always that way and I'm just remembering that it was different in Quark. At any rate, I would love to find a way to change Indesign so it allowed lines to break right after an em or en space.

I use discretionary line break characters after my en/em spaces, but it's a PITA to have to add this to my find/change queries every time.

Indesign has a “nobreak” function in the character palette. I wish there was also a “break” function that could override a character's default.

Other than adding a discretionary line break character, does anyone know a way to get breaking en and em spaces?
