      Hi,

I am working on a book and want to set crop & bleed marks like in the attached image. I have tried all visible options (that I know) but still no success. Can Anyone help me regarding adjusting these marks according to the image. Thanks in advance.

In the print dialog, go to marks and bleed, all the settings you may ever need are there.

These settings are not giving me the desired results. That's the issue.

You can achieve exactly what is in your pic with those settings.

Can you please help me in details. you have noticed that bleed marks are not attached to the corner of page, they are inside it.. I can not set them away from page corner.

When you make a PDF, the crop and bleed marks will appear to be placed inside the page, but they are actually marking where the page edge should be cut. That is, the white “page” in the PDF is now larger than your page in InDesign because it added the marks.

Technically the crop marks should be offset to be outside the bleed area.

The worst is when you're supplied artwork and they have included colour bars that encroach the bleed.

      Thank you all for this help. I am still unable to resolve the issue. Let me describe it in more details. I want to set my file's marks as first image which is here. But I am unable to adjust these accordingly. Please view the 2nd image below too;

      File 1

Here is the 2nd image, the file on which I am working. You can see, this is different from 1st one. I am stuck and wondering what to do with this. Any help ? Trim Area: (216 mm X 140 mm) Print Area: (181mm X 108 mm).

It looks like you're trying to emulate the marks of QuarkXPress, and InDesign simply doesn't work that way. I don't even bother with the bleed marks from InDesign.

That being said, with a 3 mm bleed and an offset of 4.05 mm, you'll get a close approximation.

You need to include the slug area.

Well, unless there's some kind of challenge involved, I think you're preoccupied with something few people see. But, I've been there, and I imagine many other members have been as well.

And there is a solution as this Flash video will show: https://www.screencast.com/t/o0CiZbUw

It's done is CS5, but I believe CS3 had the script; it's been around a while.

Please tell us what “few people see”.

I still consider what you have done by hand to one page, to be possible in the print settings.

      Tim,

I'm just saying that unless you're somehow involved in the production of a printed piece, you're unlikely to ever see the crop marks, so why get preoccupied with them?

And I'll have to respectfully disagree with you regarding the print settings. Yes, you can get somewhat close as I indicated in an earlier post, but neelarung was trying to achieve something very specific.

Without the ability to adjust the offset and length of the bleed marks—which are longer than the trim marks—I don't believe it can be done with InDesign's default installation. Give it a try.

There is an old post about customizing the MRK file definition in CS3, but it's not something I'd want to tackle: https://creativepro.com/cre…..design.php

      Bob
