I am currently working on a directory, where the records have a structure such this one: name, address, category, sub-category.

I need to organize it like that:

      • Category1 (as sections of the directory)

        • Sub-category 1.1 (as subtitles)

          • record 1.1.1
          • record 1.1.2

        • Sub-category 1.2

          • record 1.2.1

      • Category2

The only way I can think of, to accomplish this, is to break the source file into several smaller source files, perform DataMerge for each one of the smaller files and then manually merge the resulting partial files.

But I wonder, there is a way to automate the process?

I have about a hundred partial files to deal with, and moreover, when merging the resulting files I need not to leave incomplete pages between subcategories: this would be a lot of manual work, so I do hope someone could suggest a way to automate it.

      Thank you!

I would take a look at some of the database publishing apps out there, such as InData from emsoftware.com.
