Here's a quick way!

If you copy 2 or more tables in sucession into Word. Then delete the paragraph space between them, Word merges them.

I know it's not ideal – but it works. And you can copy and paste that back to Indesign.

I know nothing about scripting or a script like you mentions. Sorry I can't be any more help.
