Layout for a Book with Figures and Equations

      I have a basic layout complete based on an DIY publishing book. But it only shows how to import an RTF file and I assume is for basic novels and the like.

      What is the proper way to incorporate figures and equations? If I first import the body text via PDF, how should I place all of the figures/equations? I tried a few things, but I need a robust approach that the professionals would use. Any links or reading material?

      I have used lynda.com before, think this class would cover it?
