Monotype Imaging Expands Offering of Linotype Fonts on Fonts.com

The Fonts.com™ e-commerce store from Monotype Imaging Inc. offers thousands of Linotype® font products that have been added to the site. The new selections can be previewed, purchased and downloaded by clicking the Linotype link on https://www.fonts.com/FindFonts/Foundries.htm.
The initial batch of Linotype fonts was released in late January; however, new Linotype products will be continually added to the site. Monotype Imaging is able to distribute all Linotype fonts, as of its August 2006 acquisition of Linotype GmbH.
“The combination of Linotype and Monotype Imaging blends Linotype’s highly valued typeface collection with Monotype Imaging’s expansive distribution capabilities,” said Allan Haley, director of words and letters at Monotype Imaging. “Adding these products to Fonts.com is another step toward providing graphic communicators with the best possible font offering.”
Perhaps the most notable new releases are the Palatino® Sans and Palatino Informal font families. Designed by Hermann Zapf, the two families offer casual interpretations of the original Palatino design, created by Zapf more than 50 years ago. The Palatino, Palatino Sans and Palatino Informal designs share a common structure, allowing them to work harmoniously when interchanged throughout documents.
Jörn Lehnhoff’s Linotype Ego™ typeface is a handwriting design intended for adding a personal touch to letters, greeting cards and other projects. “Though the design is sketchy in appearance, Linotype Ego remains legible, even when used at small point sizes,” Haley said.
Frutiger® Capitalis, the latest design from Adrian Frutiger, consists of two titling alphabets (regular and outline) and a suite of signs and symbols based on images from Frutiger’s book “Signs and Symbols: Their Design and Meaning.” A marked departure from his earlier work, Frutiger has described the process of designing the typeface as “liberating.”
“With contributions from esteemed designers such as Hermann Zapf and Adrian Frutiger, Linotype’s collection of typefaces is both widely used and highly regarded by the creative community,” said Akira Kobayashi, type director at Linotype. “Our presence on Fonts.com allows us to share these designs as well as future generations of new releases, created with the same high standards for design and production, with a new and larger audience of creative professionals.”
Linotype fonts are available in the PostScript®, TrueType® and OpenType® formats for Windows® and Macintosh® systems. Prices start at $24.
