      Hi Everyone,

I recently wiped and re-installed everything on my computer, including the Adobe apps. However, I cannot seem to find my custom presets on the clone backup of my previous installation.

I've looked in the following folders:

      • Library/Application Support/Adobe/InDesign
      • Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5/Presets
      • Users/[home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe InDesign CS5

I can't think of anywhere else these presets would be stored and it's driving me a little batty. I seem to remember doing this on previous versions of InDesign.

      Thanks,
      Rene

Presets (PDF Presets, Print presets, etc.) are stored in the code ball known as the InDesign Defaults file. This is in

      • [home]/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version 7.0/en_US/InDesign Defaults

I think you should be able to copy/paste the Defaults file over to replace the one in your new clone, though Adobe cautions against it, especially since you're doing a same version/same platform swap. Try it and let us know if your computer explodes.

The other custom settings, like saved Find/Change queries and Workspaces, are in folders in that same Prefs folder, and those you can just copy/paste over, replacing the existing ones. (again, only recommended for same version/platform moves).

Um… I tried doing that on one of my computers, and got a strange “System Meltdown” message, just before the magic smoke* leaked out of the hard drive. :-D

      * Magic smoke is what makes all electronic devices work. This is proven by the fact that when it leaks out, the device stops working.

Good information, Anne-Marie. Thanks. What about Preflight profiles though?
