Can't seem to get the right hand page to preview in spread (or as a single page).

I've selected Preview Spread from the Preview Panel dropdown menu, selected the Set

Preview Spread Mode icon in the Preview Panel - to no avail. Did I miss something?

The files are (various) ID CS5 exercise files downloaded from Lynda.com.

      ID CS5 7.0.3

      MBP, Snow Leopard 10.6.5

      258 GB available

Keeping this description short - as this could be a "my bad" or common "new user" oversight.

      Doh!

Still troubleshooting – and wanted to clarify – I've replicated with new (empty) “facing pages” documents exported IDML with the hopes of getting out of this weird jam. I'm running out of ideas. Anyone else purchase the CS5 Master Collection having the same issue with InDesign preview spreads?

It sounds like you're trying to use OS X's Preview. Preview can't get in there and parse an ID file to be able to identify what is a spread, or even “see” a page in ID, unless it's been massively upgraded since the last time I messed with it.

I got an email from Adobe yesterday requesting information and a sample file.

      Hello and thank you, (Adobe).

Let me know if I've missed something in the knowledge base or user forums.

My workflow(?): I'm currently training with CS5 InDesign on Lynda.com using the provided exercise files following along with the training videos. No printers/peripherals.

I'd like to preview (facing pages) spreads in the Preview Panel as seen in the training videos.

I've created my own (blank) facing pages documents with the hopes of previewing the spread in the preview panel – to no avail.

Selecting Preview Spread form the fly-out menu and using the spread button at the bottom of the preview panel don't allow me to view the spread. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software as well.

As requested I've created and attached a “test.indd” document. Let me know if you can view the spread in your preview panel.

I'm not sure if it has ever worked as I just received the Master Collection form Adobe last month.

Looking forward to your expeditious reply.”

YAY, I can view spreads in the ID preview panel! Success after following the steps given below from Adobe customer support!

      Re-create the InDesign preferences:

Damaged InDesign preferences files can cause InDesign to behave unexpectedly. You can re-create the InDesign preferences files to el iminate problems caused by a damaged preferences file.

      1. Quit InDesign.
      2. Drag the “Version 7.0” folder from Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/ to the desktop.
      3. Drag the “Version 7.0” folder from Users/[user name]/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/ to the desktop.
      4. Restart InDesign.

If the problem recurs after you re-create the InDesign preferences, the problem isn't related to preferences files. To restore custom settings, drag the folder you moved in step 2 back to its original location, and then click Replace to the alert “An item named 'Version 7.0' already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you're moving?”
