      Hello –

I'm working with a user manual that is set up as a master file for a series of manuals. The product line has different models, but the vast majority of content and instruction remains the same. So I'm using conditional text to tag content specific to each model. Its tedious but is working nicely. I was also tagging company specific content vs. distributor-specific content (basically a version for us the manufacturer and a version for distributors to ship with product). There isn't much information to tag in the latter so I've decided to use layers for that content/graphics change (one for ours and one for the distributors).

The issue I'm having is each copy is not the same number of pages in length. For example, the distributors limited warranty is 3 pages more of content than ours. I've unthreaded these warranty pages from the main document and layered the “text frames” as a seperate layer. But when I hide it, it leaves the pages behind and takes the text frames away. I can click “show” on our version and it places our shorter warranty into those same pages, but obviously leaves blank pages where the other warranty was….

Anyway to make it so the actual pages do a show and hide?? Layer the page?

This would be a HUGE help at this point! Thanks for any comments!

Look at the Smart Text Reflow preferences in Type pane of the Preferences dialog box. There's a delete empty pages option.

David – You are the man! Very much appreciated! Works like a champ! Now i can just use conditional text for content and not mix in layers.

I need to force myself to sit through all of your tutorials on lynda.com….instead of only watching the when I need something!

      thanks again!
