Is there a way to change the color of guidelines in InDesign?

go to the preferences menu and go to guides and pasteboard to change the colour of the default lines like slug, bleed etc. to change the colour of the guidelines placed manually, go to the layers panel, double click on the layer and change the colour of the layer (the default is blue).

You can also change the color of any individual guide: select on or more, right click, select “Ruler Guides…”. In the dialog, you can change its color.

Collywolly, you're a little confused I think. Changing the color of a layer doesn't change the color of the manually dragged ruler guides. It just changes the color of the non-printing frame edges and hidden characters on that layer. Jongware instructions are correct to change the color of ruler guides.

i'd like some bbq sauce with my humble pie… :D

must admit i'd tried it in when i saw the OP and it was done quite hastily and it wasn't until i read your post that i second-guessed it and tried it again, but with more guides and lo and behold, they didn't go the same color as the layer but stayed the default 5% cyan :(.

sorry if this has frustrated anyone who tried the advice in my earlier post…

I can see why you thought the layer controls the color: if you drag a guide out of a ruler, it initially has the color of the layer. But that's just because it's selected; de-selecting it reverts the color to the default.
