is there any way to delete Registration Color out of InDesign?

I know the purpose of this color (to show up on every separation) however in my line of work, i sometimes see artwork with type that has accidentally been set to registration instead of black, or a client has used registration as a “rich black” not knowing that the colour will be above the maximum ink weight for our presses.

For me, Registration color is a legacy of the older times when layout programs were (rightly or wrongly) used to prepare impositions and registration and crop marks had to be in this color, but nowadays all of that stuff is taken care of by imposition programs and surely the colour is not needed in indesign nowadays.

in my own workflow so that i don't click on registration by mistake, i've moved the colour well out of the way in the swatches palette, but that's not enough… i want it GONE! :D

Sorry, there's no way to make it go away.

But you can drag it to the bottom of the list (do it while no docs are open to make it the default). And you can set up a Preflight profile to catch any use of it.

i did stumble onto this thread and a javascript by a Ole Kvern titled “registrationfix.jsx” as well as a solution to the problem by exporting as an inx and editing in something like textwrangler, but the inx solution will be a thing of the past in CS5 (no more inx, eh?)

have used the suggestion of moving the registration colour to the bottom, but sadly still using CS3 so no preflight on my machine at least. on the machines that i've seen running CS4, i was amazed to see that the preflights used was the [basic] one which really alerts to very little… so was a lesson not just those operators but to anyone to set a decent preflight profile while no docs are open!
