I sent a large InDesign file to a colleague about a month ago so that he could generate a native index for me. Before he had finished it, the author of the document returned a mark-up of changes to the nearly 1000 page document. In an effort to save time on production, I went ahead and incorporated the author’s mostly minor (but numerous) changes… totally forgetting that the index would be based on an older version of the document. Very little change occurred to page numbers (only one two-page shift which I could easily duplicate in the indexed document before generating the index). However, it would obviously be ideal if I could somehow merge the documents?keeping the index entries from the older document while keeping the text from the newer one. Does anyone know how I could go about doing this without too much hassle? Otherwise, my supervisor has informed me that I will be generating the index as is, adding it to the end of the updated document, and just crossing my fingers on whether a couple of the page numbers might be a little off. I hate this idea, so any help would be appreciated.
