InDesign CS4 Users Can Now Manage Preferences Easily

Preferences can be shared and multiple preference files stored on one machine with In-Tools Preference Manager script

I wish I had a dollar for every time I suggested that a user trash his or her preferences to fix some type of quirky behavior in InDesign. For those of you unfamiliar with that terminology, it’s InDesign-speak for resetting the application back to its factory defaults. The procedures for doing so were discussed a few years back here.

On the surface, it’s a simple enough way to fix something that’s gone a bit wonky on you but then you realize that all of the preferences you’ve spent time setting are now gone and you need to do it all over again.

Enter In-Tools and their new Preference Manager script. The script makes several tasks much easier.

First and foremost, it keeps copies of preference files making it a snap to get back to where you were. In additional, users with more than one computer can now set the prefs on one machine and load them on another. This is real boon to agencies or any other multi-seat organization.

Finally, for those who set their preferences for different types of tasks the script manager, allows you to store several different versions and swap them with just a couple of clicks of the mouse.

The best part is that the script is free. As noted in the title of the post it’s compatible with CS4 only.

Visit In-Tools website for download and installation instructions.
