Hi: I received some files from a design firm, and they have a custom grid in them. I want to copy the grid and use it elsewhere. How can I do that? They aren’t guides that can be selected. There’s no dialog box for a grid as far as I can tell. It’s basically a bunch of horizontal guides (I don’t care as much about the column guides), but I want to copy them exactly (I’d recreate them but I don’t know the exact settings). Is there a way to do that? I thought maybe they were guides on a locked layer, but they’re visible even when I’ve turned off every layer (so they’re somewhere else).

      Thanks, Phyllis

Wait… if you turn off every layer (so nothing is visible on the page), you still see these guides?
If you look in the menus, at View > Grids & Guides, do you see Hide Baseline Grid or Hide Document Grid? Perhaps it’s one of those?

That’s it! Baseline Grid. Funny, I never set these on a whole document like this, though I set them on individual boxes across a spread (and rarely view them). And there’s a page on the Adobe site that says I should be looking for Layout > Layout Grid. It’s actually Edit > Preferences > Grids (which I’m sure you know!). Confusing!

Yay! Glad that worked. Lots more on baseline grid here:
