      Hello,

My client wanted his endnotes to restart numbering at 1 for each chapter. Correct me if I’m wrong, but InDesign doesn’t do this. We formatted the book and the links to the endnotes were broken so that they could (manually) restart at “1 for each chapter.

The eBook formatter says he needs the endnotes relinked. So I did a test with a couple chapters, separating them into their own files, I made an .indb, and added the chapters to it. I relinked the endnotes. But in spite of choosing “restart every story” AND Scope: Document, in the endnotes options, the endnotes appear at the end of every chapter and not in their own file (can I get them into their own file?). Is there any way to have them appear at the end of the book instead of every story/file and have them renumber at 1 for every chapter?

      Thank you!

Everything about endnotes makes me want to bang my head against the table. I don’t do them much, but people tell me that Peter Kahrel’s scripts are invaluable: https://creativepro.com/files/kahrel/indesign/footnotes.html
