If I have a running head Text Variable, which is linked to a character style, it is empty at the beginning of a document as long as the character style hasn’t appeared – let’s say, this happens at page 2 of the document.
If I now want to empty this Text Variable on page 4: How do I do that?

The only thing I know is to insert a very small space (e.g. hair space). But then I still have a space, which is not the best solution, if the Text Variable is part of a running header composed of multiple Text Variables.
All zero-width characters are ignored (e.g. ZERO WIDTH SPACE [200B], ZERO WIDTH NON-JOINER [200C], etc.).

Is there a trick to reset the Text Variable to “null”?

      Thanks, Tobias

for those pages use a different parent/master page sans “variable”
