      Hello,

I had a question regarding adobe continuing server support for Indesign files beginning in 2023 and beyond.

Currently my company works off a server system, and all our files are stored there and we open/work on them from there. My IT department at my previous job, that I had just left, had told us in 2021 that Adobe will be ending support for Indesign files to be opened from a non-cloud-based server come 2023 and that we would either need to work on locally saved files or switch to a cloud-based solution.

He has since implemented an application called K4, a plug-in for Indesign that stores the files on their cloud servers.

Now at my new job, we have a much smaller design team (I work on the MARCOM team for a community college) and so I don’t believe that IT here is aware of this and I don’t want to be caught with my pants down come 2023 and my team has to quickly alter our workflow.

I started doing my own research into this, though, and I can’t seem to find any articles stating that support is ending. I don’t know if I’m searching poorly or if my previous IT department is mistaken.

Does anybody here know anything more about this, or can point me int eh direction to learn more?

      Thanks,
      Austin

I deal with folks working off a server all the time and have not heard this at all, but I’ll check.

Perhaps someone got confused when they heard that Adobe was dropping support for Type 1 fonts in 2023?

Thanks for the reply, Anne-Marie. I was thinking the same thing, that they ere getting confused — and admittedly hoping they were, due to them being an extreme know-it-all lol.

Hey Austin, I checked with one of my higher-up contacts there who also checked with engineers, who said “There are no plans to remove support for existing indd format, which will continue to be available to users to use on local systems or on supported local servers.”
