Linking text and photos – best way?

I’m going to be doing a document that will have some elements that might change in the future. I’ve been watching videos on how to link text into different parts of documents (I’m good-to-go with photos in this respect), but just wanted to see if anybody had any good tips on doing this efficiently. I did notice when I did a test document, that the text box doesn’t change with an imported / placed InDesign text element, but using the Edit > Text to Link option does allow this. That’s probably just the way things work.

I’m pretty confident I’ll be okay, but I just wanted to see if anybody had anything they might want to add that might help. This would be the place to ask!

      Thanks

      Randy

Yeah, this can be tricky, depending on what you want/need.
CC Libraries has a way to link to text that needs to be updated. But it’s hard to link to formatted text. Does it need to be formatted?

Here’s an old post on the subject (that doesn’t include cc libraries because it was written before that feature):

Updating Bits of Text Across Multiple Documents

It might need to be formatted but not much. I’m going to be re-creating some training documents in InDesign instead of whatever they were created in before, so that we can do simple changes across the entire document when our standards change, as they do all the time.

I think a combination of Word docs and Place and Link should do the trick, and might place InDesign documents as well if it is something more complex. The ability to match the style names from Word > InDesign for whatever formatting we need should also work.

I might be able to get away with just using Place and Link alone.

It’s been a year since I’ve used InDesign (been using Illustrator at my new job, and Photoshop at home so I’m always using Adobe-something!) and I started with XPress 3.0 back in the day. One year off sure does dull the knowledge of a program! But I’m back up to speed and confident that this will work fine. Looking forward to creating these documents, I’ve always been at jobs where nobody wanted to use these features and instead cut-and-paste everything, even page numbers. I had to fight tooth-and-nail to get one place to use Libraries instead of creating everything over and over again each week!

I posted here just to make sure that I create the document with the right tools from the get-go.
