There are other “alternatives,” depending on what you workflow requires. For example, a number of companies now use WordsFlow or DocsFlow from Em Software (https://emsoftware.com), which lets you link external word processing files to InDesign, so that you can keep editing in Word (or Google Docs) and also in InDesign.
