Hi,
I am reaching out to see if anyone has encountered the same error that I have.
After exporting an ePub 3.0 from InDesign, and opening it in Sigil, I get an error in Sigil that suggests the ePub is not well formed and that there is an issue with the DOCTYPE.
The error reads:
“This EPUB has HTML files that are not well formed or are missing a DOCTYPE, html, head, or body elements. Sigil can automatically fix these files, although this may result in minor data loss in extreme circumstances.
Do you want to automatically fix these files?
YES NO”
Bear in mind I have tested this with an ePub with only one story, so I know which xhtml file inside the ePub is poorly formed, as there is only one.
Now, when I’ve clicked YES, the file runs extremely slowly in Sigil and struggles to run the preview panel.
If I click NO, the same thing happens.
I have been in communication with Adobe’s support team and followed their instructions:
1. Making sure InDesign is up-to-date
2. Resetting InDesign settings
3. Following relevant instructions found on Adobe Help: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/indesign/user-guide.html/in/indesign/using/setting-preferences.ug.html
I noticed this error occur at the end of November 2020, and I have been using the same process to create ePubs from InDesign since January 2019. So, this error is reasonably new, and I have yet to find a fix for it.
I’ve spoken to Adobe on the phone, and their support developers say it’s not an issue on Adobe’s side.
I’ve yet to get a response from Sigil’s developers.
My suspicion is that the error occured during a Sigil update at the end of 2020, but I can’t get to the bottom of how to fix it, on my own or with Adobe’s help.
My question for this forum is therefore:
Have you experienced this before when exporting ePubs from InDesign? If so, have you found a fix for the issue?
Thanks,
N
