      Hi all,

I’m working on a document that will be printed but also placed online. It’s full of hyperlinks within the text. For the version that goes online, I want these hyperlinks colored blue (they’re all in a character style). But for the version we print, I want them to look just like the surrounding text (since they won’t actually be linked anywhere in print). I seem to vaguely remember that one of the instructors at Creative Pro had a session on how to do this with conditional text. Does anyone remember where I can find that video? I’ve never used conditional text and am wondering how to go about making this happen. I was going to wait until the end and just change the style, but it might be nice to keep both versions throughout the process (so I can check back and forth how they look for both media).

      Thanks, Phyllis

You probably could do this with conditional text, but because you’re using styles, my suggestion would be to just change the color of the character style. That is, make it blue before you export for online, and change the character style to Black before print.

That said, here’s a video and article on conditional text:

Hey, thanks. I was just thinking it’d be nice to jump back and forth (print vs online view) without modifying the styles since I have multiple hyperlink styles. Although, now that I think about it, maybe I can set a base style that lets me do the back-and-forth faster. Thanks for the info — I do need to learn about conditional text! And anything else I don’t know about InDesign. :-)
