You’ve been working hard? you need to take a break! And on your break, check out these great links:

  • Hey, in case you’ve been living under a rock: Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion is out! I haven’t heard any reports of problems yet. Adobe has a little compatibility note on their site here.
  • Like dingbat or pi fonts? Like them even more when they’re free? Go download Erler Dingbats. (There is a much larger package of these fonts for sale at fontshop.)
  • Speaking of fonts? Adobe has released an “open source font” called Source (the first Adobe font to include the Indian rupee and Turkish lira symbols!).
  • Are you a writer or creator and you’re interested in learning more about copyright? My longtime friend and colleague Gary Marshall (an attorney who has a joint law and business degree from Stanford) wrote up some notes for a talk he gave recently. You can find them under “Electronic Rights and the Writer” here on his site.
  • This is tweaky but? If you’re interested in programming in Acrobat, or understanding the PDF or PostScript languages, you have to know about John Deubert’s Acumen Journal, which appears to be a free download.
  • This is a Photoshop tip, not InDesign, but I just love how my friend Deke teaches how Levels work. Simple and fun to watch.
  • If you’re making (or trying to make) fixed-layout EPUB and you haven’t see ePUBcrawler yet, go watch these videos!
  • If you’re a designer (or you just like to play one), you must check out Chip Kidd’s TED talk: Designing books is no laughing matter. OK, it is.
  • Do you speak Italian? I don’t (besides “gelato” and “pizza”). But if you do, check out Claudio’s InDesignInAction.

Enjoy!
